Strengthen your core muscles : HOW???
There are two secrets to this :
Secret #1 : The Horse Stance a.k.a. Bird Dog
Check out this article (click here). This post explains all about which of our muscles that helps to support our entire body. There are two : lower abdominals and transversus abdominis muscle (TVA). I didn’t know all these until it was explained to me by my coach. That the TVA was a natural muscle belt that helps to support our bodies.
What was so shocking was the exercise that helped to strengthen these two muscles. It was so simple that it was so effective. If you scroll further down the article, you can see the exercise that I had to learn how to do to strengthen those supporting muscles.
Because of my slipped disc, it was difficult to move much so I started with the exercise in Figure 6, move on to Figure 7, then Figure 8. I actually skipped Figure 9 and went onto a bug walk, then onto a Swiss Ball and on a wobbly disc for hand support.
After two weeks of doing Figure 6, I notice that my stomach was getting flatter and flatter. In fact, when I do these exercises, my stomach was getting extremely flat and that’s without any situps or crunches! When I realized that, I did this move all the time and I’ve been doing it every since to maintain my slim figure. So, killing two birds with one stone : strong back + slim waistline = win win!
How often did I do it? Early in the morning when I wake up.
Secret #2 : Kegel Exercises for a Stronger Back
Hang on! You’re thinking what has Kegel Exercise have anything to do with strengthening the core? I’m going to explain in what my coach told me. I probably will get it wrong but I’m sure she’ll correct me soon. Basically, when I Kegel, it also helps to activate the multifidus muscle which is a thin back muscle that supports my spine. Also, because of my slipped disc injury, my muscles were so weak that I had to RE-LEARN how to use it again. And the easiest way to do that was to do Kegel Exercises.

How often should you Kegel? I do it everytime I sit down and when I get up. Why? Because that’s the time when you may not be able to control your bladder (continence). So it’s a great time to remember to Kegel.
